The picturesque fishing village of Avlemonas is located in the eastern part of Kythira, it is built according to the standards of Cycladic architecture and is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Kythira.
Starting the route leaving the village behind, we find ourselves in a modest natural environment, where we will find that many parts of the path have followed the same route for centuries, preserving intact stone structures and steps that are several centuries old. Looking back we see the southern eastern coast of the island where some of its most beautiful beaches can be seen. Arriving at the top of the mountain we meet Agios Giorgis on the mountain, the panoramic view from the chapel literally takes your breath away and is a true compensation for the hiker.
The importance of the site acquires unique importance as in recent years the archaeological dig has revealed the first Minoan peak sanctuary in Greece, bringing to light several important findings, and information regarding the relationship of the Minoans with Kythera, but also their activities in wider area.
